Since I'm about to go enjoy it....this evening I'm thankful for my comfy bed and snuggly husband! I hope you all have a good night's sleep. Tomorrow is FRIDAY, and it will be even more fun than usual, because it's the 100th Day of School! We elementary people look for any reason to celebrate...speaking of....that's another thing to be thankful for:) I have a job where we can change up the routine every now and then, just for fun!

Introducing

If any of you had Willard Tate at ACU, you probably remember making thankful lists each morning. Per WIllard's inspiration, for five years now I've had my students write "Thankful Thursday" journals. I talk to them about what it means to be thankful and encourage them to try and think of something different to be thankful for each week. However, I haven't always taken time to join them in this exercise of thanksgiving, so I decided to make "Thankful Thursdays" a part of my journal too:) Each week I'll try to think of something different to be thankful for. I have so much to be thankful for. I think this will be a good reminder each week!

Today I am very thankful to have a working heater. We are under a winter weather advisory and have freezing temperatures and sleet right now!! Yikes! I am so thankful to have a warm house with a heater, an electric blanket for tonight, and maybe even some hot cocoa in a little while:) It is easy for me to take something like being able to warm up when I'm cold for granted, until I talk to a precious child at school whose family does not have a working heater during a really cold week like this one. I pray that those sweet babies are able to cuddle up and stay warm tonight...sometimes I wish I could bring them home with me. I hope you're all doing well and staying warm!

ABCs

I saw this on someone else's blog...a fellow first grade teacher....I know, I know, you'd think we'd have gotten enough of the ABCs at school:)...but, I thought it was a fun idea! So here are the ABCs of our life!

Always hug before we leave for the day
Being on time is something we want to be better at
Cuddling is the best
Doing chores together is better than by ourselves
Evenings together are fun
Family is a blessing
Good friends are wonderful too
Home is the most relaxing place to be
Ice cream is one of our favorite treats
Juggling lots of part time jobs will end soon for Keith
Keith is the husband
Learning together as we journey through life
Mindy is the wife
Naps are fun for me, but not for Keith
Open communication is important
Playing games is one of our favorite things to do
Quite a bit of Diet Dr. Pepper is consumed here
Relaxing with a good back rub (for Keith) or foot massage (for me)
Sleeping in on Saturday mornings
TV shows like Grey’s Anatomy and The Office are fun to watch
Undefeated Memphis Tigers fans
Very excited for graduation in May
Waiting to see where we’ll be in a few months
Xcited about what the future holds
Younger husband….older wife
Zippers that are hard to reach are not bad with a husband’s help

Forgive and Forget?

At lunch today one of the teachers was telling a story about something that happened with her husband many years ago, and she said, "I've forgiven him, but I haven't forgotten about it." Another teacher responded with,"That's okay, I think those two are a lot more mutually exclusive than we think." Conversation shifted, so we didn't get to discuss it further, but I loved what she said. (You can read more of her profound and witty comments here.) Sarah is a veteran blogger, so I know she'll be happy her comment inspired a blog post:)

Anyway, it made me think about a conversation that we had in bible class a while back when someone told a similar story about being able to forgive, but having a harder time forgetting. My wonderful husband/bible class teacher shared similar wisdom that day. Why do we think forgive and forget are like peanut butter and jelly? Jesus asks that we forgive, but doesn't mention forgetting...our society put the two together and we mistake it for truth. Here was the kicker for me--if we forget, are we really even forgiving, or are we avoiding true forgiveness? Instead, when we remember the pain someone caused us every time we see them and choose to love them anyway....that's real forgiveness, and it's a lot harder. Keith's words in bible class that day convicted me. I love when that happens, and I'm thankful for my sweet husband who is wise beyond his years!

All of this has gotten me thinking, what other values and principles do we assume go hand in hand with our faith when they really don't?

the great shoe search

I'm a firm believer that teachers (and other people who are on their feet all day) NEED comfortable shoes. Since I started teaching, the comfort factor has become far more important than the cute factor or the bargain factor. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE a good deal and like to look at least semi-cute:), but when my feet hurt, I become grumpy, and I don't like to be a grumpy teacher, wife, and friend. I've been wearing and LOVING reef flip flops since college,

and have convinced several friends and family members to buy them, but my problem has been finding something equally wonderful for the winter. I've worn several different shoes over the years, and they've been okay, but none have been quite like those reef flippies....until now...I think I may have finally found some that qualify, as equally cute, comfy, and versatile, so I wanted to recommend them (and the reef flips for anyone who's been missing out) to you! They are "Privos," by Clark. I've wanted to wear Clark's since I got married and became a Clark:) and now I do! They have several different styles. They are cute with jeans, khakis, and capris, and work well with socks or not. I got a brown pair for my birthday last spring, and now a black pair for Christmas. Then, I liked them so much I got my mom some for her birthday. I know they're not cutie, stylish heels, but I'm just too big a wimp to do that everyday! So, in case any of you mourn your flips in the winter, (and still sneak them in from time to time) but want a casual shoe that will keep your toes warm--here you go! BTW--Just in case you don't know, when shopping online, be sure to do a google seach for a coupon for your product! Take care of your feet!

Wanna Play a Game?

I LOVE playing games. I think one of the best things about the holidays is being able to dedicate lots and lots of time to playing games with the fam. Especially since our best game playing friends (shout out to Jac and Spruce) moved, and we don't get our game fix every weekend like we used to! Every year Keith and I get at least one new game for Christmas. Everyone teases that we have more games than Walmart! I love that Keith loves games as much as I do. I really don't know what I'd do if my husband didn't:) This year our new games are The New Yorker: Cartoon Caption Game, You've Been Sentenced, and Boggle. We enjoyed them all. The NewYorker: Cartoon Caption Game has cartoons without captions, and you have to write creative captions...it was really funny. Our family is even funnier than we thought! You've Been Sentenced gives you several random words and you have creatively put them together to make a sentence, the more words you can use, the better! Boggle is one of Keith's all time faves; we just didn't own it. It's kind of like a word search, but more fun. Some of our other favorites are Hoopla, Taboo, and Whoonu. I really like Hoopla, because you aren't competing against each other, instead, you all work together against the clock. Whoonu is fun and super fast, it's also a good way to get to know new people. Taboo is just plain fun, and the longer you play the better you get! Do you like games? What are some of your favorites?

Our Holiday Highlights

I hope you all had a joy-filled holiday with your family and friends.

We celebrated four years of marriage in December. I'm so thankful for my sweet husband and I can't imagine living life without him! Since I'm a teacher and Keith's a student we've gotten really spoiled having long Christmas breaks together. Because we probably won't have such a long break together next year and last year we spent most of our break doing unexpected home renovations, we've decided to "live it up!" We've been staying up late and sleeping in everyday, watching movies, running errands, and just spending time together.

We are blessed to have two wonderful families and we enjoyed spending time with both of them, first in Jackson, and then in Roby. We enjoyed lots of good family time, sleeping in, staying in our pjs all day, eating lots of good food (both of our moms are wonderful cooks!!), drinking hot chocolate, putting together jigsaw puzzles, and playing lots of games.

Reluctantly, we took the Christmas tree and decorations down yesterday, and things are slowly getting back to normal. But, normal is good too! Christmas wouldn't be special if it were always Christmas:) Happy New Year everyone!

blog world...here i come

After stalking the blogs of friends and strangers for the past couple of years, I finally decided to join you! Over the next few months as Keith gets closer to graduation and begins looking for full time ministry positions, we will be closing one chapter of our lives and opening a new one, so I decided blogging would be a fun way to record what's going on in our corner of the world. Thank you to all of you bloggers for allowing me to keep up with you and your families the past couple of years! I think this is going to be fun!
